What's the role of the marshaller on the ramp?

The marshaller establishes the loadplan and the loadsheet and provides it to the crew to sign it

The marshaller shall guide the aircraft to a complete stop on the stand, using standard hand signals. Once the aircraft has come to a complete stop and the engines shut down, the marshaller shall give the “all clear” signal to inform the handling staff that it is now safe to approach the aircraft

The marshaller is responsible for towing process

The marshaller is responsible to inspect the aircraft upon arrival and before it leaves the stand

Safety notice #81 was published on 14SEP22 to suspend the use of cargo nets on ULD containers. Why has this decision been taken?

The ULD nets being used across the network were not the right ones for the ULDs being used across the network

The cargo nets were not always properly placed on the ULD container e.g too loose, not tighted properly

There were 2 events that happened across the network where the netted ULDs were jammed making the loading/unloading difficult and unsafe

Following several Weight and Balance events (W'&B), a CoE (Correction of Errors) report was created by the Safety Team and shared with the relevant stakeholders. According to you, what were the lessons learnt that were mentioned in the CoE (Correction of Errors) for Weight and Balance events?

Ensure and confirm that the Warehouse/Ramp Handover document is properly filled, signed by both parties (warehouse and ramp) and retained by the Warehouse OPS.

Ensure and confirm that the Weigh Scales have been inspected and/or calibrated by reviewing the associated documents for each Gateway

Ensure we are always tracking the weather conditions on the ramp as this will have an impact on the aircraft balance conditions

Ensure and confirm that the Warehouse Agents that are responsible for the W'&B process are properly trained and qualified

COMMITMENT reflects the extent to which every level of the organization has a positive attitude towards safety and recognizes its importance. Top management should begenuinely committed to keeping a high level of safety and give employees motivation andmeans to do so as well

BEHAVIOUR reflects the extent to which every level of the organization behaves such as to maintain and improve the level of safety. From the management side, the importance ofsafety should be recognized and everything needed to maintain and enhance safety records should be put in place

AWARENESS reflects the extent to which employees and management are aware of the risks for themselves and for others implied by the organization’s operations. Employees and management should be constantly maintaining a high degree of vigilance with respectto safety issues

ADAPTABILITY reflects the extent to which employees and management are willing to learn from past experiences and are able to take whatever action is necessary in order to enhance the level of safety within the organization

INFORMATION reflects the extent to which information is distributed to the right people in the organization. Employees should be encouraged to report safety concerns.
