Evolution of ERPs and lack of integration of information systems

The aim our study is to analyze the relationships between the evolution of ERP packages and the lack of integration of information systems (which are composed at least of one ERP). We try to verify if some research factors (ERP project management, ERP interoperability, Dependency on ERP vendors, Economic crisis and competitiveness of firms, Evolution strategy of legacy systems, Evolution strategy of ERP vendors and Complexity of ERP) could play a key role within the framework of these relationships.

This questionnaire is destined to firms whose information system contains at least one ERP

Please give attention to the difference between an information system and an ERP. An information system could contain one ERP, several ERPs, none, others applications, many subsystems, in-house developed systems...However, if the whole information system is only composed of one ERP, in this case there is no difference between the information system and the ERP

Question 2

What importance could you assign to the research factor: ERP project management ?

Question 13

The information system, in your firm, is fully integrated (integration rate 100%)

By integration rate of information system, we mean the reliability of integration, within the framework of the information system, between the ERP and other subsystems (other ERPs, in-house developed systems, applications, software...). However if the ERP is the only component of your information system, in this case this rate could be evaluated as fully integrated if the ERP works efficiently without any issues between its different modules.

Question 17

In the future, ERP vendors should not allow to clients to decide whether they want to buy only a part (few or some modules) or the whole ERP package (all modules). The client must buy the entire package. Consequently, the client will be totally dependent on the ERP vendor

Question 34

In the future the evolution of ERP systems must not take into account the evolution strategy of your legacy system in a manner that allows your firm to choose and to drive a given evolution strategy of information system (urbanization or total overhaul) depending on the state of your existing system (extremely complex, complex or simple)

- Urbanization: evolving the information system by successive stepwise stages (by keeping the part of the legacy systems that is functional and operational);
- Total overhaul: whole replacement of all legacy systems with another at one time. It involves making a clean sweep in order to completely replace the existing systems by a new information system.
